Oakland, CA – Today, the Biden Administration issued a new goal for the United States to achieve a 50-52 percent reduction from 2005 levels in economy-wide net greenhouse gas pollution in 2030. This announcement took place during the virtual “Leaders Summit on Climate” that the White House is currently holding. The California Environmental Voters issued the following statement in response.

“Today’s Earth Day announcement shows what a difference elections make; when people vote change happens. Just six months after Election Day we’re seeing America’s renewed leadership catalyze global progress. This race to the top is exactly what is needed on the climate crisis.
With nine years left to prepare for what’s happening and prevent the worst on climate change, we will be organizing and pushing for these global benchmarks to be followed by aggressive and equitable legislation passing through Congress in the coming months.”
